40th Anniversary Reunion - Devon 2016
This year, the main venue for meeting up was the Church House pub in Stokenham, which in recent years, has become welcoming to our fraternity. This is ironic, as we were banned from there many years ago for a number of seasons, prompting the landlords at the time to put up "No Leather Jacket" signs in the doorways. Times have changed, and it is now the Cricket pub that sees itself as up-market, yet it must be said, that we are still made welcome there, and most of us still meet up ther during our stay.
Talking of Beesands, very little of the pebbly beach remains, a victim of longshore drift and erosion. Very large rocks are now in place to protect the village from the forces of nature.
The weekend saw 34 "adults??" and 3 children meeting up, including 14 ex-patch wearing Freedom Riders. In addition to the regular annual attenders, it was great to see the likes of Malcolm, Jan and Alison Snarey, Mick & Christine and Polly. We even mustered 7 motorbikes between us !
We were delighted to meet up with Margaret Courtney and her daughter Lisa, and we presented them both with bouquets of flowers on Saturday evening....Cyril and Margaret's tenure of the Cricket will never be forgotten.
Dartmouth and Salcombe pubs received our custom this year, as did the Pigs Nose at East Prawle on the sunny Sunday lunchtime. Some of the photos show the crowd outside here, including Martin Brooks ( "Maggot" ), who sadly passed away earlier this year (2017). He had been in good spirits, and was looking forward to completing his Buell special to bring to Devon this summer : R.I.P. bro'.
So here comes another year, hoping for a long hot summer and looking forward to scooting around those country lanes. Hope to see you there at the end of July.
